KEY DETAILS

  1. Read all paperwork (Lease, welcome info, other documents) - The lease is a legally binding contract and it is important to read all documents thoroughly.
  2. Do not show up earlier than your expected time - You will be asked to wait at MIAD's parking lot until your time slot. Directions to the Parking lot can be found below.
  3. Do not order any packages until after you have moved in - They will be returned and not accepted.
  4. Pack strategically - Coordinate with your roommates to avoid bringing multiples of objects and try to pack conservatively so you have enough room!
  5. Do not bring a Uhaul, trailer, or other box truck - These vehicles are not permitted in the garage, and you will have to unload them on the street. Uhauls and Trailers are a sign that you brought too much and will be cramped on space in your unit.
  6. Be mindful of your neighbors and roommates - Everyone wants to be unpacked and moved in; however, make sure to be courteous and polite (ie: return your cart asap, introduce yourself, etc).

Important Reminders

Please keep these things in mind during your move-out to ensure proper safety and security of all tenants and staff.

  • Building Security

    Remember:

Use your FOB to access the building each time you enter.

Do not prop doors, hold the door open for others, or allow someone to enter as you exit. We understand that this can feel inconvenient or rude as you go in and out of the building, but this is essential for maintaining security in our building.

Escort your helpers at all times.

If you notice people who appear to be trying to gain access to the building, notify staff immediately.

  • Community Standards Reminder

Please plan to pack in ways that will allow you to move as efficiently as possible. Also, do not leave belongings in the hallway while you are moving. They will become an obstacle for others and a violation of the Fire Code.

  • Start Planning & Preparing

As summer comes to an end, it's never too early to start planning for your move-in. To make the process smoother, we recommend that you begin planning and coordinating with your roommates on what to bring! We recommend packing small and avoid bringing any unnecessary items.

Make sure to check our “What to bring” document located under our “Helpful Downloads” section.

On move-in day, we'll have carts available to help you transport your belongings easily and safely.

Do not bring a Uhaul, trailer, or other box truck. These vehicles are not permitted in the garage, and you will not be able to unload them.

  • Mailing Address

Do not order any packages until after you have moved in. They will be returned and not accepted.

Setting up mail forwarding is an important task when moving. To ensure that you receive all of your mail, please follow these steps:

    IN PERSON

    1. Go to the local post office to receive the Change of Address (COA) form.
    2. Fill out the COA form with your current address, new address, and the date you want your mail forwarding to start.
    3. Submit the completed form to the post office in person or online.

    ONLINE

    1. Go to the official Change of Address (COA) page on the United States Postal Service (USPS) website: https://moversguide.usps.com/mgo/disclaimer
    2. Click on the "Get Started" button.
    3. Fill out the COA form with your current address, new address, and the date you want your mail forwarding to start.
    4. Choose whether the move is temporary or permanent.
    5. Select whether you want to receive a confirmation letter by mail or electronically.
    6. Pay the $1.05 identity verification fee using a credit or debit card.
    7. Verify your identity by answering security questions.
    8. Submit the completed form and your payment.

The post office will then start forwarding your mail to your new address.

It's important to note that the post office may take a few days to process your request, so make sure to set up mail forwarding at least a week before your move-out date.

  • Schedule your Move-In Day

Before the start of the semester MIAD will assign a move-in day and time. It is important to arrive at the exact time requested because by being too early or too late you may run into complications or have your move-in delayed.

By preparing early and communicating you can reduce stress and minimize any potential issues with your move-in.

  • Move-In Day

Do not bring a Uhaul, trailer, or other box truck. Bringing too much negatively impacts your roommates quality of life in the dorms.

Once it has reached your move-in time, you will be directed to the designated move-in area at the Two50Two building. You will enter the parking structure and will be greeted by RA’s and other staff to assist you in loading your items on two carts. After you have received your keys, you will take the elevator up to your floor and be directed to your unit to unpack!

Remember, you must read over the welcome poster and complete the Tenant Move-In Inspection IMMEDIATELY after arriving to your unit. This inspection will ask you to document and take photos of your living space to note the condition of the unit as you received it. Failure to complete this inspection within 7 days will result in you acknowledging that you have received your unit and have chosen to opt out of submitting a condition report and accept the unit as is.

  • Moving Carts

You will receive two move-in carts to assist you in your move! These carts are for borrowing only and need to be returned so that other tenants may use them for their belongings as well, so it is essential to return the cart as soon as you are done using it.

  • Parking

If you or the tenants helpers arrive before everything is packed up yet, you may park in the MIAD Student Parking lot. This lot is attached to the summerfest grounds and can be found on East Erie Street. Only once it is your move-in time or if we are ready for you will you be able to drive over to the designated unloading area.

Address to Parking Lot: 650 E Erie St, Milwaukee, WI 53202

  • Dumpsters & Donations

During move-in, dumpsters will be available directly outside the Two50Two lobby on the street for your convenience. To help guide you to the dumpsters, we will provide clear signage to ensure that you can easily dispose of your waste.

Please note that the dumpsters located in the alley or across the street do not belong to us, and therefore, we kindly ask that you refrain from using them.

Two50Two staff will not be accepting any kind of donations. We encourage you to consider donating any extra food or items that you may have to one of the following charities:

    • Milwaukee Rescue Mission: 830 N 19th St Milwaukee, WI 53233
    • St. Vincent De Paul: 4476 S 108th St Greenfield, WI 53228
    • Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity: 3015 N 114th St Wauwatosa, WI 53222
    • The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center: 324 N Jackson St, Milwaukee, WI 53202
    • Goodwill Store & Donation Center: 2830 N Oakland Ave Milwaukee, WI 53211
  • Bike Rack

We have a bike rack located outside in a FOB Secured area at the south stairwell on the ground level. You may place your bike down there and recommend using a bike lock as well for extra security!
