Important Reminders

Please keep these things in mind during your move-out to ensure proper safety and security of all tenants and staff.

  • Building Security

    Remember:

Use your FOB to access the building each time you enter.

Do not prop doors, hold the door open for others, or allow someone to enter as you exit. We understand that this can feel inconvenient or rude as you go in and out of the building, but this is essential for maintaining security in our building.

Escort your helpers at all times.

Lock your door before leaving, and return all keys to the staff in the Two50Two Lobby to complete your move-out.

If you notice people who appear to be trying to gain access to the building, notify staff immediately.

  • Community Standards Reminder

Please plan to pack in ways that will allow you to move as efficiently and quietly as possible. Also, do not leave belongings in the hallway while you are moving. They will become an obstacle for others and a violation of the Fire Code.

Move Out Guide

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about the move out process.

  • Start Planning & Preparing

As the academic year comes to an end, it's never too early to start planning for your move-out. To make the process smoother, we recommend that you begin collecting packing materials such as boxes, bins, and bags, and start coordinating a cleaning schedule with your roommates.

We understand that finding boxes can be a challenge, so we'll be placing empty boxes in the lobby as they become available for your convenience.

On your move-out day, we'll have carts available to help you transport your belongings easily and safely.

  • Schedule your Move-Out Day

Before the end of the semester, our property manager will send out a reminder to sign up for a move-out day through your tenant portal.

The holidays or semester break are a great time to start discussing your move-out plans with your family. By preparing early and communicating with your loved ones, you can reduce stress and minimize any potential issues.

  • Cleaning Checklist

Before Move-Out Day, all tenants need to clean their units.  Your unit must be left in the condition it was in when you moved in.

    • All furniture must be returned to its original location within the unit. This includes beds. If you need assistance to change a bed height, please enter a maintenance request.
    • Close and lock your windows.
    • Remove all trash, recyclables, and any personal items from your unit. Anything left behind will be discarded and you will be charged a waste removal fee.
    • Turn off all lights.
    • Check your mailbox for any remaining items, and set up mail forwarding (directions below).
    • Bring your keys, Fob, Laundry Card, and moving cart to the Lobby when you are done. You MUST return your keys in order to complete check-out.
    • Vacuums will be available for check out from the Lobby. You will need to bring all other cleaning supplies.
    • Coca-Cola works well for cleaning the chalkboards if used in moderation.

For a full cleaning checklist, please visit the HELPFUL DOWNLOADS page and download the "Cleaning Checklist" to ensure you get your security deposit back.

  • Mail Forwarding

Setting up mail forwarding is an important task when moving. To ensure that you receive all of your mail, please follow these steps:

    IN PERSON

    1. Go to the local post office to receive the Change of Address (COA) form.
    2. Fill out the COA form with your current address, new address, and the date you want your mail forwarding to start.
    3. Submit the completed form to the post office in person or online.

    ONLINE

    1. Go to the official Change of Address (COA) page on the United States Postal Service (USPS) website: https://moversguide.usps.com/mgo/disclaimer
    2. Click on the "Get Started" button.
    3. Fill out the COA form with your current address, new address, and the date you want your mail forwarding to start.
    4. Choose whether the move is temporary or permanent.
    5. Select whether you want to receive a confirmation letter by mail or electronically.
    6. Pay the $1.05 identity verification fee using a credit or debit card.
    7. Verify your identity by answering security questions.
    8. Submit the completed form and your payment.

The post office will then start forwarding your mail to your new address.

It's important to note that the post office may take a few days to process your request, so make sure to set up mail forwarding at least a week before your move-out date.

  • Packing & Move Out Day

Once you have thoroughly cleaned your unit and packed all your belongings, it's time to move out. Head down to the lobby to grab a cart and start loading your items.

Remember, your unit must be completely cleaned and emptied by your scheduled move-out time. Please make sure to coordinate with your roommates to ensure that everything is done on time.

  • Moving Carts

If you plan on borrowing a moving cart for move-out, please wait to grab the cart until you have everything packed up and ready to move. We will have limited carts during move-out, so it is essential to return the cart as soon as you are done using it.

  • Parking

If you or the tenants helpers arrive before everything is packed up yet, you may park in the MIAD Student Parking lot. This lot is attached to the summerfest grounds and can be found on East Erie Street. Only after everything is packed and ready to be loaded, may you bring your vehicle to the Two50Two building.

Address to Parking Lot: 650 E Erie St, Milwaukee, WI 53202

  • Dumpsters & Donations

During move-out, dumpsters will be available directly outside the Two50Two lobby on the street for your convenience. To help guide you to the dumpsters, we will provide clear signage to ensure that you can easily dispose of your waste.

Please note that the dumpsters located in the alley do not belong to us, and therefore, we kindly ask that you refrain from using them.

Two50Two will not be accepting donation items at this time and encourage you to donate them to Hope House (1.5 Miles Away - 209 West Orchard Street in Milwaukee).

We encourage you to consider donating any extra food or other items that you may have to one of the following charities:

    • Courage MKE: 1544 S 6th St, Milwaukee, WI 53202
    • The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center: 324 N Jackson St, Milwaukee, WI 53202
    • Goodwill Store & Donation Center: 2830 N Oakland Ave Milwaukee, WI 53211
  • Bike Rack

Do not forget to grab your bike and/or lock from the bike rack.
